From Treskavica mountain an altitude of 1520 m, flows the Rakitnica River about 32 km long. Its deep valley intersected between the Viso\u010dica and Bjela\u0161nica mountains. The almost entire upper course of the Rakitnica River is overgrown with willow trees named Rakita, which is a specific type of tree. In the area of the territory of the city of Konjic, four smaller streams flow into Rakitnica: the Peru\u0107a stream, the tributary of Me\u0111e\u0111a, the left tributary of Gru\u0161\u010da and Studeni Potok. According to geomorphologists, the Rakitnica Canyon is about 10 million years old and is the deepest canyon in Europe right after the Tara River Canyon.
