National monuments in Konjic<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][gt3_spacing height=”24px”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1724063330730{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\n

There are few cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, even beyond, that can boast such a turbulent and long written history, with numerous findings from the Roman period and the Middle Ages. Konjic is also a unique city because it was an extremely important traffic junction in the Ottoman period, one of the strongest centers of the Bosnian Church in the 15th century, and the city that connected Bosnian sanjak with Herzegovinian sanjaks. <\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][gt3_spacing height=”17px”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1724063610002{margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]\n

Situated in the southeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Konjic spans 1386.6 km2, making up 2.6% of the country\u2019s total area.\u00a0It\u2019s no surprise that tombstones (ste\u0107ci) are scattered across every part of this surface, in the east, west, south, and north. This is where the ancient Bogomils found their eternal peace, here in Konjic.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][gt3_spacing height=”60px” responsive_es=”true” height_mobile=”15px”][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner css=”.vc_custom_1690286170228{padding-left: 35px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1724063825499{margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]\n

Konjic has 4160 medieval tombstones and 150 necropolises, making it the second city in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the most monuments of this kind. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Commission to Preserve National Monuments has identified 54 monuments of great cultural and historical significance, with 30 of them being tombstone necropolises (ste\u0107ci).<\/p>\n

The necropolis Gr\u010dka Glavica was added to the UNESCO list of monuments on 15 July 2016. The necropolis is located in the village of Biskup, not far from Glavati\u010devo.
