Historical and natural heritage
Blatačko Lake is situated 1200 meters above the sea level and about a 40-minute ride from the city of Konjic. It’s located in the area of the village of Blace, which unfortunately, not many people know about, except for true alpinists.
This is a glacial lake located on the Bjelašnica mountain, right on the border with beautiful Visočica. During the summer, the temperature of the water reaches 22°C, but during the winter, it’s covered with snow and frozen.
The lake was originally used for the needs of cattle, and represented an exception because this part of Bjelašnica is poor in water – no springs nor other form of water.
The surrounding of the lake is rich in terms of cultural and historical heritage with medieval tombstones called stećci and nišani and along with the deep canyon of the Rakitnica River, it creates a cultural landscape and the National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Blatačko Lake is a part of the indispensable hiking tours.
It leads from Konjic through the villages of Džepi and Vrdolje, to Čuhovići, Lukomir, and to the canyon of Rakitnica or the peaks of Bjelašnica.
It is surrounded by pastures and dominated by low vegetation and deciduous trees, mostly beech. Aside from 7 necropolises of tombstones stećci that are near, the area of the lake is also rich in natural heritage.
