Prkanj mosque is located on the left shore of the Neretva River, ideally situated in heart of the old town,
only a short walk from the Old stone bridge. It was named after the neighborhood Prkanj and was built before 1585.

In heart of the old town
The mosque was originally covered with a slab, but after it was returned to the Islamic community of Konjic, the slab was replaced with brick. Unfortunately, the mosque was closed for almost 25 years after the war and served as a warehouse. According to a document from 1788, the mosque in Belgraddžik (the name for a town on the left bank of the Neretva River at that time) was reconstructed by Suleiman Bey.
Hivzija Hasandedić also notes that a women’s school was built next to the mosque around 1819. Next to the mosque is a harem where Hajji Zulfikar and many members of the Hadžizukić family are buried. Among them is Hajji Zulfikar’s Arab slave, the one who killed the famous hajduk Mijat Tomić.
The mosque is open every day to all visitors, including those who come to pray, and no admission is required.
