“Alma Subašić brings an evening of sevdah and art to her hometown of Konjic.”

31/07/2025by Welcome to Konjic0 comments

“The open-air concert ‘Oh Konjic, I Sing to You’ on August 2nd at the Summer Cinema brings together tradition and contemporary sounds.”

“In her hometown of Konjic, under the starry sky of the Summer Cinema, on August 2nd starting at 9 PM, the audience will be treated to a special musical evening – a concert by Alma Subašić, a performer of sevdalinka, architect, and guardian of the intangible cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

“Performing in front of her hometown audience is not just a concert for Alma Subašić – it is, as she says, her greatest responsibility, but also a deeply emotional experience.”

“It’s always the greatest duty, the biggest task, and the most nerve-wracking performance, because I feel the greatest responsibility in my own city. Concerts here are always especially emotional for me — I feel a deep sense of joy, but also a certain kind of responsibility.”

“The concert prepared by Alma Subašić will be a fusion of the traditional and the contemporary, of sevdah and global musical heritage.”

“The repertoire will include some of the songs I recorded for my album released last year, Sevdah del Alma, as well as pieces tied to film music and our domestic films, which I will perform on stage together with Armin. There will also be some evergreen songs from global music and world musical heritage. When we talk about sevdah, we need to understand that it’s a genre that sings about love and truly is love — much like blues, jazz, fado, or flamenco. All of these are subgenres of a greater genre: the genre of love.”

“This year’s concert by Alma Subašić brings special stage innovations. The audience in Konjic can expect an intriguing fusion of sevdah, jazz, and blues, with guest performers joining Alma on stage.”

“We’ve introduced some refreshing elements to the stage. I’ll be joined by an interesting group from Canada — The Wreen Brothers. They are originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but they live and study jazz and blues music in Canada. This fusion, I would say, will bring a fresh experience to the concert as it blends with our sevdah. Also joining us is Armin Omerović, our theater and film actor, who will bring his own poetry, his songs, and his unique style of interpretation. My brother Harun will be on the piano as well. Of course, there will be musicians — my band — some from Sarajevo, some from Konjic. So when we all come together on stage, we create a mix of different musical influences.”

“Alma Subašić’s concert will take place on August 2nd at 9 PM in the beautiful setting of the Konjic Summer Cinema, as part of Konjic Summer 2025 and the ‘Konjic in the Heart of BiH – Diaspora Days’ program, under the patronage of the City of Konjic.”
