13th Actor’s Festival of Bosnia and Herzegovina: National Theatre Mostar delighted the audience in Konjic with “A Fairy Tale About Theatre”
As part of the 13th Actor’s Festival of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the ensemble of National Theatre Mostar performed the play “A Fairy Tale About Theatre” tonight in the cinema hall of the National University of Konjic. It is an excellent comedy that humorously examines the position of culture and theatre. After the performance, we spoke with the actors Dragana Matrak Bukvić and local talent from Konjic, Dino Kerić.

Dragana Matrak Bukvić: “The hardest thing is to make the audience laugh.”
The actress Dragana Matrak Bukvić, for whom this was her first professional performance in front of the audience in Konjic, is not hiding her positive impressions, although she regrets that the hall was not more filled.
“This is my first time performing in Konjic, although I have visited privately before, and I always feel a special warmth here. I truly feel good and at home. The audience followed the performance wonderfully from start to finish and fully accepted what we offered them,” said Matrak Bukvić.
She also reflected on the common misconception that comedy is an “easy genre” compared to drama:
“People often assume that comedy is easy, but that is not true at all. I believe that making the audience laugh is actually the hardest thing. However, we went through this process with ease; it was interesting and fun for us, and the final result turned out very good.”

Dino Kerić: “Proud and happy in front of his fellow citizens.”
For the young actor Dino Kerić, this performance carried a special emotional weight, given that he was performing on the “boards that mean life” in his hometown.
“It was very beautiful. We have already performed this play six or seven times in Mostar, and it just so happened that the opportunity arose for us to be part of the Actor’s Festival in Konjic. I am overjoyed that we had the chance to present ourselves to my fellow citizens. I am proud of the entire team and happy that I came before the local audience with this particular play,” said Kerić.
Alongside Dragana and Dino, the acting ensemble that earned applause in Konjic tonight includes Saša Oručević, Emil Sejfić, Amela Kreso, Jasmin Krpo, and external collaborator Diana Ondelj Maksumić.

The festival program continues on Tuesday, June 2, when the audience in Konjic will have the opportunity to watch the play “This Small Life.” The performance starts at 7:30 PM and is an exceptionally interesting co-production between the Croatian National Theatre (Croatian National Theatre Mostar) and the National Theatre Mostar.

An adrenaline oasis near Konjic: the Challenge Park combines adventure, nature, and family fun.
As part of the Visit Konjic Outdoor Resort, the Challenge Park has been opened – an adrenaline attraction designed for all lovers of active holidays, nature, and sporting challenges. Located in a natural setting near Konjic, the park offers a blend of adventure, recreation, and team spirit through various obstacle courses tailored for all ages.
The Challenge Park is designed as a course with two levels of obstacles, set at heights of three and six meters, featuring more than 30 different challenges. Visitors move through suspension bridges, nets, and cables stretched between trees, testing their balance, concentration, and agility.

As Amela Bubalo, who together with her husband Sanjin runs the resort, points out, the idea for this project was developed three years ago.
“Challenge Park is a continuation of our artificial climbing wall, where we offer sport climbing and via ferrata. It was designed as a training center for everyone who has no experience or who wants to improve their skills. The growing trend of going into nature and climbing motivated us to create a place where people can get familiar with equipment and gain confidence before heading out into the field,” said Bubalo.

She adds that the park was built with the help of friends who are licensed to construct adventure parks in accordance with European standards.
“Each obstacle represents a new challenge, and it takes about two hours to complete the entire park. Upon arrival, visitors go through a short briefing, get familiar with the equipment, and then begin their adventure,” Bubalo explains.
The park is primarily intended for children taller than 140 centimeters, but younger children can also participate when accompanied by their parents, while the facilities are not reserved exclusively for the youngest visitors.
“Our instructors are there to help and encourage visitors to complete the entire park. The goal is to push the limits of your balance and motor skills, but also to have a good time. Children are usually not afraid and enjoy overcoming the obstacles,” says Bubalo.

She especially emphasizes the importance of involving children in outdoor activities from an early age, so that they spend more time in nature and develop their motor skills.
“We wanted our youngest fellow citizens, from kindergarten age to schoolchildren, to be part of this story. Not only to promote Konjic and our resort, but also to raise awareness of the importance of nature, ecology, and spending time outdoors. Today, technology is increasingly affecting children’s motor skills and concentration,” she emphasizes.

Visits to the Challenge Park are available daily with prior reservation. Sessions are scheduled at 10, 12, 14, 16, and 17 hours, and each session can accommodate between 10 and 15 people.
“Advance reservations allow us to fully dedicate ourselves to each guest and avoid crowds. Our top priority is for everyone to enjoy themselves and feel safe,” concluded Amela Bubalo.
So far, visitors’ reactions have been extremely positive, which gives the Visit Konjic Outdoor Resort team additional motivation to develop new tourist content and outdoor attractions in Konjic.

Three May Evenings of Harmony: Konjic Marked by Concerts of the Students of the “Rezonanca” Elementary Music School
May in Konjic traditionally takes place in the spirit of culture and art, and the coming days bring a special musical experience. The “Rezonanca” Elementary Music School is preparing a concert series titled “Three May Evenings of Harmony”, which will undoubtedly enrich the cultural scene of our city.
The concerts will be held on May 18, 20, and 21, 2026, starting at 7:00 PM in the beautiful setting of the Bosnian Room at the National University of Konjic. Admission is free for all visitors.
We spoke with the school’s principal, Biljana Handžo, about what the audience can expect, how the preparations have been going, and which departments will present themselves to the public.
Over 70 Students Bring the Magic of Classical and Pop-Rock Music
Principal Handžo emphasizes that May is traditionally the most active month for the school, when all the effort and quiet work throughout the school year culminate in beautiful public performances.
“We started the second semester a week earlier in order to complete the full curriculum on time. All students and learners of our school are taking part in these May concerts. This used to be a single evening, then two, and now it has become three evenings of harmony, as the school today has over 70 students. We want to give every child the opportunity to show what they have learned,” Handžo explains.
Students will perform in the violin, guitar, piano, and accordion departments, with the accordion department introduced last year as a new program and already recording an excellent response with six new students. A special attraction is also the pop-rock department, intended for students who have completed the classical program but have chosen to continue their musical education in more modern styles and rhythms.

Detailed program by evenings (7:00 PM, Bosnian Room)
Due to the large number of performers, the concerts have been divided into three rich one-hour programs, while there will be a break on Tuesday due to activities of the Actors’ Festival.

For young musicians, performing in front of an audience represents a special challenge, but also a mandatory part of their education that builds self-confidence and helps overcome stage fright.
“Our teachers carefully select a more engaging program that is not too demanding for the audience. At the concerts, there is also a clear dress code, because classical music performances are also a lesson in etiquette and stage culture. Our greatest reward is seeing proud parents, as well as the smiles on the faces of children who attend our school purely out of love,” the principal emphasizes.
The success of the students is also credited to a dedicated team of teachers who come to Konjic from Sarajevo and Mostar, along with the only teacher from Konjic, Professor Emela Osmančević. The team includes: Lidija Čović and Sarah Šačić (violin), Emir Bečirović (guitar), Ivana Čelik and Konjic native Emela Osmančević (piano), and Enis Sihirlić (solfeggio, piano, and accordion).
Announcement: Ballet Spectacle, Competition Participation, and Enrollment Period
In addition to the instrumental program, “Rezonanca” in Konjic is also recording great success with its ballet and dance department, led by Professor Samra Mlinar Mandić, which brings together 40 girls and one boy.
“They are currently intensively preparing for the upcoming competition in Mostar (May 23), where they will travel with as many as 14 choreographies in the categories of baby ballet and creative dance. Already on June 9, at the cinema hall in Konjic, the audience will be able to enjoy their full-length ballet program, which promises a great atmosphere similar to the winter project ‘Broadway on the Neretva’. The school’s grand final concert, marking World Music Day, is scheduled for June 26.”
Open Call for Applications for the New School Year!
Principal Biljana Handžo took the opportunity to invite everyone interested in the music school:
“The public call for enrollment in the new school year is already open. Due to spatial capacity and the number of classrooms, the number of places is limited. We invite all interested candidates to apply as soon as possible in order to avoid crowds in September. Entrance exams will be held at the beginning of June.”

Konjic flooded with children’s smiles: The “FutureA” Festival once again brought magic to the city streets.
From the area stretching from the City Market to the City Mosque in Konjic, the traditional children’s festival “FutureA” is being held today, attracting hundreds of children, their parents, as well as numerous visitors to the city streets. This recognizable festival was organized in cooperation with the organization Out of Area and the “FutureA” team from the Netherlands, who were given special thanks for their selfless support and years of dedication.
The event, which transforms the city streets into a large open-air playground, is once again being held as part of the celebration of the International Day of Families. On behalf of the City of Konjic and Mayor Osman Ćatić, the attendees were addressed by Sabina Ćukle.

Sabina Ćukle: “Family gives us wings to fly, and the City of Konjic creates an environment for its growth.”
In her address, Sabina Ćukle emphasized the importance of preserving family values in challenging times, as well as the institutional support that the local community provides to young people.
“What is most important is that these are activities that children truly enjoy — and so do we adults. Today, entire families are here with us, especially those with several children. We all know that family is our root, and we all love being firmly connected to it. It keeps us grounded, but it also gives us wings — it gives us the freedom to fly.”
“In today’s world, which brings various challenges to all segments of society, support for the family is of exceptional importance. The City of Konjic, as a local self-government unit, strives through its programs and measures to provide strong support for children, youth, motherhood, and parenthood. Through pro-natalist policies, support for housing solutions for young people, scholarships for pupils and students, as well as awards for the best achievers, our goal is to create a favorable environment for life and work in our city and homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Ćukle stated.

She also expressed immense gratitude to Anita and William Boss, the people who initiated and brought this significant festival to our country, as well as to their successor Julija, who, together with a team of young and creative people from the Netherlands, brought joy to the children of Konjic.

From summer sledding to mountaineering: What do the children say?
The city streets were transformed into creative and sports zones. The children could choose between face painting, making unique jewelry, and adrenaline-filled challenges that attracted the most attention.
The children did not hide their excitement:
A girl enthusiastically shared her impressions: “I got my face painted! I went sledding and it wasn’t scary at all. Now I’m planning to climb the rock wall and make bracelets!”
The boys mostly stayed at the sports activities: “We like everything, and the best part is the music! We were just throwing at cups and almost hit everything. Now we can’t wait to go play football.”
Brave boys successfully climbed the artificial mountaineering wall: “We reached the very top! It wasn’t hard or scary, we went fast. After this we’re going with our class to the football field—that’s what we’re most excited about.”
The girls spent their creative moments in workshops: “We are making hearts out of small berries, and afterwards we’re definitely going to face painting and the trampoline near the princess. We also really enjoyed the sledding!”

Parents agree: Creative content that children look forward to all year
Parents also did not hide their satisfaction with what they saw, emphasizing that such events are of great importance for children’s socialization and healthy development.
“It’s very interesting and creative for us. We visited a number of stands, went to face painting, and rode the sleds and slides. We especially liked that we created our own T-shirts as a keepsake. It’s a wonderful day for children to socialize and truly enjoy themselves in the sun,” said one of the mothers.
A beautiful sunny day, hundreds of playful children, and streets filled with positive energy once again confirmed that the “FutureA” Festival is one of the most beautiful and most anticipated events of the year for the youngest residents of Konjic.
Admission to the festival is free, and it is open until 4:00 PM.

The campaign “Spring Cleaning and Beautification of the City of Konjic” for 2026 is beginning.
The City of Konjic is once again organizing the campaign “Spring Cleaning and Beautification of the City of Konjic” for 2026, with the aim of tidying up public areas after the winter period, removing illegally disposed waste, and improving the quality of the living environment for all citizens.
“We are symbolically launching the campaign on April 22, Earth Day. It involves concrete and organized fieldwork that will last over a longer period, from April 22 to May 22. The planned activities include organized collection and removal of bulky waste on pre-determined dates (May 4, 11, 18, and 25). It is also planned to work separately on the right bank of the Neretva and the left bank. This will be followed by cleaning and maintenance of streets and public areas, park landscaping, flower planting, and activities with schools and kindergartens aimed at education and raising awareness about the preservation of nature, public, green, and traffic areas. As part of the campaign, or possibly after it, we have also planned the covering of illegal dumpsites and increased monitoring of them, as recently we have been facing more and more problems with illegal dumping in the city and its surroundings,” said Minela Greda, municipal services inspector in the Department for Joint Professional and Inspection Affairs of the City of Konjic.

“The campaign begins with a reforestation effort involving JKP ‘Standard’, GSS Prenj, Forestry ‘Prenj’, and the Neretva Konjic Scout Troop. The Civil Protection and Firefighting Service of the City of Konjic will carry out the washing of streets and public areas, while children from two kindergartens will plant flowers. The First Primary School will clean one bank of the Neretva River, and the Second Primary School Konjic will clean the other bank of the Neretva,” said Inspector Greda, adding that these activities have proven to be successful.
“It is important to emphasize that without the participation and responsibility of citizens, there can be no lasting results. The City can organize cleaning and maintenance, but if waste continues to be disposed of improperly, the problem keeps returning and repeating. I am pleased that, through Radio Konjic and other communication channels, citizens will be informed in a timely manner, and we invite everyone to take part,” said Inspector Greda.
Reforestation, the first activity within the campaign, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, at 9 a.m., and will take place in the area from Suhi Do toward Vrtaljica.
The Forestry company “Prenj” has provided one hundred container-grown black pine seedlings from its nursery at Boračko Lake for this purpose.

“Young female environmentalists from Konjic say: ‘Our mission is to preserve the future through the proper disposal of e-waste.’”
“Prva osnovna škola Konjic has actively joined the project of proper e-waste disposal, raising the question: Why is it crucial that old appliances and batteries do not end up in our rivers, and what role do the youngest have in environmental protection? About the motives for joining the e-waste disposal project, as well as the biological dangers hidden in old devices, we spoke with biology teacher Edna Delalić and members of the environmental section.”
“In response to the question of what motivated the school to take this step, teacher Delalić emphasizes that the safety of the local community is always a priority.”
“Our school is always actively involved in environmental projects. Our main goal is the safety and health of our fellow citizens, and above all, our children. It is very important to provide the public with information about what e-waste actually is, because many people do not know where and how it is disposed of, nor that this waste can be reused through recycling,” Delalić emphasizes.
“Biological hazard: What happens when e-waste ends up in nature?”
“As a biology expert, Delalić warns that electronic devices are not ordinary waste. In nature, they become a ‘ticking time bomb’ for our respiratory system.”
“What many people do not know is that this waste releases many harmful substances that are dangerous once they enter nature. They reduce the amount of oxygen, and inhaling these substances can lead to serious respiratory problems. This is where allergies, bronchitis, and asthma occur. A single small battery that we throw away can cause permanent damage to our bodies,” the teacher warns.
“Students as agents of change”
“A special emphasis in the project is placed on younger generations, who, according to the teacher, often know more about environmental protection than adults.”
“We should have the greatest influence on younger populations, which is why students are the carriers of these projects. They are the ones who spread good habits until they become natural and part of everyday life. We constantly talk about this in class, and they have no doubts—they know exactly what e-waste is and directly ask questions,” she said.
“Instructions for fellow citizens: Do not dispose of devices on your own!”
“The teacher took the opportunity to issue an important appeal to all residents of Konjic who are planning a spring cleaning of their homes:”
“Save e-waste: Do not throw old appliances into attics, basements, or, worst of all, into nature.”
“Organized collection: In cooperation with the public utility company ‘Standard’, collection will be organized to a specific location at a designated time.”
“Small and large waste: Small e-waste can be brought to the school, while large waste (such as household appliances) will be collected by a ‘Standard’ truck and taken directly to the company ZEOS for recycling.”

“Voice of young environmentalists”
“Students of Prva osnovna škola Konjic, members of the environmental section under the mentorship of teacher Edna Delalić, have become true ambassadors of environmental protection. Ajša Halilović emphasizes that the key to success lies in informing the population, which is why the students also created a special survey.”
“We want to find out how familiar our fellow citizens actually are with the concept of e-waste and its harmful effects. I learned that improper disposal directly damages our respiratory system and organs. It is important that this topic is promoted everywhere—from kindergartens to schools—so that the importance of nature conservation is instilled in children from an early age. After the project, we will repeat the survey to see how successful we have been in encouraging citizens,” says Ajša.
“For Alma Nožić, this project is a way to preserve the beauty of Konjic for generations to come:”
“It is important that e-waste is disposed of properly in order to protect our future. We want to remind people of the beauty that surrounds us and that we should not destroy it, but rather restore it. We invite all parents and citizens to bring small e-waste to our school, and soon we will also announce the schedules for collecting large waste in cooperation with ‘Standard’,” she said.
“Anisa Kadić and Elhana Šljivo emphasize the importance of activism and the visibility of the campaign itself in the city.”
“Our wish is for students to be the main carriers of this initiative. With the help of our teachers, we want to encourage the entire community to get involved and collect as much e-waste as possible,” says Anisa Kadić.
“Elhana Šljivo adds: We have also prepared special signs and flyers with information about what e-waste actually is. They will be placed throughout the city so that all passers-by can learn more and join our campaign.”
“With the opening of an info desk yesterday in the school lobby, Prva osnovna škola Konjic once again demonstrated the power of collective action. While small waste is already being collected, a special pickup for larger items is being prepared in cooperation with the public utility company ‘Standard’—the exact time and location of the collection, as stated by members of the environmental section, will be announced next week.”

“The 24th Festival of High School Dramatic Creativity of Bosnia and Herzegovina has opened in Konjic.”
“With a ceremonial opening, the curtain was raised on the 24th Festival of High School Dramatic Creativity of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Konjic. The festival was officially opened by the Mayor of Konjic, Osman Ćatić, who wished all participants a pleasant stay in Konjic, while also commending the hosts for yet another excellent organization of the festival.”

“The City of Konjic is always part of positive stories. First, I would like to commend the young people from AP ‘Neretva’ Konjic, who have been working for 24 years to give young people from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina the opportunity to showcase their talents at this festival. That is extremely valuable and deserves recognition. I also wish that the young people who come to Konjic take away beautiful memories and return to us again,” said Mayor Ćatić.
“Ena Osmanović, president of AP ‘Neretva’ Konjic, expressed her satisfaction that they managed to meet the goals they set for this year’s festival, which will bring together 200 young people from across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over the next seven days, Konjic will be a place of theatre art, socializing, and the exchange of experiences.”
“We have opened our 24th Festival of High School Dramatic Creativity, and I believe we have met the goals we set for ourselves. I hope that all participants will enjoy our city and have an unforgettable festival. We have young people from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina—some are regular guests, while others are here for the first time,” said Osmanović.

“Sedin Hondo, advisor to the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of HNK, highlighted the importance of such events for young people, who express their ideas, emotions, and views through art.”
“This festival is not just an event that brings together talent, but also a meeting place for young people who express their ideas, emotions, and attitudes through art. Drama, as one of the oldest forms of artistic expression, has a special power to connect us, encourage reflection, and develop empathy,” Hondo said.

“After the ceremonial opening, the performance ‘Neretva for Neretva’, directed by Armin Filipović, was also held. Today at 5:30 PM, the first play is scheduled to be performed, and the Konjic audience will be presented with the hosts—the members of AP ‘Neretva’ Konjic—who will perform in the play ‘Eight Women’, directed by Inas Gačanin.”

“The Festival of High School Dramatic Creativity of Bosnia and Herzegovina will run until April 24, and the ‘Neretva’ Theatre has invited all lovers of theatre art to visit the cinema during the scheduled performance times at 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM, and to show their support for the young actors.”
