Project “Discover Hidden Attractions” and Regional Cooperation Agreement: Konjic and Jablanica Strengthen Their Tourism Offer

06/03/2025by Welcome to Konjic0 comments

Today, a formal signing ceremony was held in the Congress Hall of the Garden City Hotel for the implementation of the project “Discover Hidden Attractions”, with the City of Konjic as the lead partner and the Municipality of Jablanica as a beneficiary. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the LINK Entrepreneurial Center Mostar and the Municipality of Danilovgrad.

The Mayor of Konjic, Osman Ćatić, highlighted the following about the project and its importance for Konjic:

“We are pleased that, for the first time, the European Union has awarded the City of Konjic a grant as the lead implementer of a cross-border cooperation project between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, titled ‘Discover Hidden Attractions’. Since tourism is one of the key sectors of Konjic’s economy, through this project we aim to make underutilized tourism potentials more attractive and appealing to visitors by working with entrepreneurs and creating new jobs in the tourism sector.

What’s especially important to highlight is that the museum and the cultural-historical heritage of Konjic will be enriched with special programs for young people, designed to engage them through educational games and modern technologies. The project also includes activities and cooperation with entrepreneurs to develop new tourism packages, which will improve the overall quality of the offer and encourage visitor arrivals, particularly in the off-season.

The project will be accompanied by a promotional campaign positioning Konjic as one of the most interesting tourist destinations in the region, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Another important aspect is the continued cooperation with Danilovgrad in Montenegro, with whom we have already implemented several valuable projects for our local communities.

And finally, I would like to invite all potential visitors to come and discover Konjic’s hidden attractions,” said Mayor Osman Ćatić.

The goal of the project is to expand the tourism offer, attract visitors, and create new jobs in the tourism sector through cooperation with entrepreneurs, explained Alisa Gekić, Director of the LINK Entrepreneurial Center Mostar.

“The goal of the project is to help smaller local communities with unique tourism potential gain better visibility on the tourism map, in order to enrich the overall offer. Ultimately, this also improves cooperation with the private sector and all other actors contributing to tourism development. In general, the City of Konjic has excellent tourism potential, as does Jablanica, and these two communities are the project partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina. From Montenegro, the partner is the Municipality of Danilovgrad. This partnership has existed for many years, and our aim is to improve and enter a new era of tourism development in these local communities.

Another focus of the project is improving tourism management, since it’s well known—and confirmed in various strategic documents—that there is a lack of promotion and proper valorization of tourism resources. The City of Konjic, as one of the leaders with great potential, will further support these efforts.

We also aim to introduce new and modern technologies—for example, enhancing the visibility of attractions such as the Old Stone Bridge, which is a key landmark, as well as other attractive locations, including museums in Jablanica. Given the advancement of IT technologies, advanced gaming technologies will also be introduced into the museums, which will enhance their overall offering,” explained Alisa Gekić.

The Mayor of Jablanica emphasized the long-standing successful cooperation with LINK and the Municipality of Danilovgrad, adding that the project “Discover Hidden Attractions” strengthens Jablanica’s tourism capacities, which is of great importance for the development of the municipality.

“The Municipality of Jablanica has had a very good partnership with LINK for many years, as well as with the Municipality of Danilovgrad, which has collaborated closely with us in the past—and now again through this project. As you’ve heard and likely discussed in more detail today, this project focuses on strengthening tourism capacities, and I’m truly pleased about that—especially for our municipality. Jablanica is increasingly recognized as a place with strong potential for further tourism development, and this project will certainly contribute to that.

I would like to once again thank all participants, especially the LINK organization, with whom we have an excellent working relationship. I hope we’ll see even more projects like this in the future,” added Emir Muratović, Mayor of the Municipality of Jablanica.

Today, alongside the “Discover Hidden Attractions” project, the Mayor of Konjic and the Mayor of Jablanica signed a regional cooperation agreement. In her address, Alisa Gekić, Director of the LINK Entrepreneurial Center Mostar, emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships for tourism development.

“Truly, the City of Konjic and the Municipality of Jablanica are strategic partners, and as a continuation of this successful cooperation, today we are signing agreements on regional cooperation—specifically, the valorization of Jablanica Lake. All of you as stakeholders have contributed to this effort, and once again, I extend my congratulations to these two local communities. Because without strategic partnership, there can be no development of tourism,” emphasized Alisa Gekić, Director of the LINK Entrepreneurial Center Mostar, during today’s signing ceremony.

At the conclusion of the official signing of the “Discover Hidden Attractions” project and the regional cooperation agreement, the signatories congratulated one another. They emphasized the importance of strong collaboration and joint efforts for the successful development of the tourism sector in the region.
