The campaign “Spring Cleaning and Beautification of the City of Konjic” for 2026 is beginning.

The City of Konjic is once again organizing the campaign “Spring Cleaning and Beautification of the City of Konjic” for 2026, with the aim of tidying up public areas after the winter period, removing illegally disposed waste, and improving the quality of the living environment for all citizens.

“We are symbolically launching the campaign on April 22, Earth Day. It involves concrete and organized fieldwork that will last over a longer period, from April 22 to May 22. The planned activities include organized collection and removal of bulky waste on pre-determined dates (May 4, 11, 18, and 25). It is also planned to work separately on the right bank of the Neretva and the left bank. This will be followed by cleaning and maintenance of streets and public areas, park landscaping, flower planting, and activities with schools and kindergartens aimed at education and raising awareness about the preservation of nature, public, green, and traffic areas. As part of the campaign, or possibly after it, we have also planned the covering of illegal dumpsites and increased monitoring of them, as recently we have been facing more and more problems with illegal dumping in the city and its surroundings,” said Minela Greda, municipal services inspector in the Department for Joint Professional and Inspection Affairs of the City of Konjic.

“The campaign begins with a reforestation effort involving JKP ‘Standard’, GSS Prenj, Forestry ‘Prenj’, and the Neretva Konjic Scout Troop. The Civil Protection and Firefighting Service of the City of Konjic will carry out the washing of streets and public areas, while children from two kindergartens will plant flowers. The First Primary School will clean one bank of the Neretva River, and the Second Primary School Konjic will clean the other bank of the Neretva,” said Inspector Greda, adding that these activities have proven to be successful.

“It is important to emphasize that without the participation and responsibility of citizens, there can be no lasting results. The City can organize cleaning and maintenance, but if waste continues to be disposed of improperly, the problem keeps returning and repeating. I am pleased that, through Radio Konjic and other communication channels, citizens will be informed in a timely manner, and we invite everyone to take part,” said Inspector Greda.

Reforestation, the first activity within the campaign, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, at 9 a.m., and will take place in the area from Suhi Do toward Vrtaljica.

The Forestry company “Prenj” has provided one hundred container-grown black pine seedlings from its nursery at Boračko Lake for this purpose.
