As part of the off program of the manifestation “Evenings of spiritual music/experiences of BiH polyphony”, the concert “That Mystical Morocco” by the Moroccan musician Anouar ait Baouna was held on the Chamber Stage of the National University of Konjic. He is a composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist who has been performing Gnawa music since he was 15, which is considered part of the multiple culture and identity of Morocco. This extraordinary musician, who lives in Switzerland, performed several compositions on the traditional three-stringed bass and was supported in the performance of traditional Sufi music by an equestrian audience, enjoying the sounds of mystical Morocco.

Anouar ait Baouna held a concert ”That mystical Morocco”

“We had the great pleasure and luck to internationalize the “Evenings of Spiritual Music/Experiences of B&H Polyphony” tonight, that is, to feel the spirit and mysticism of Morocco through music that dates back to the 16th century. We learned more about Gnawa, about that combination of Berber and Muslim Black-African traditions, which is combined in one Sufi expression. The artist Anoura ait Baouna brought it through a three-string bass and tried to tell the story of the history, tradition and beauty of the spirituality of ancient Morocco with his voice,” said Benjamin Mušinović, director of the National University of Konjic.
Artist Anouar ait Baouna, he says, enjoyed tonight’s concert in Konjic. He is glad that he had the opportunity to meet the Konjic audience, but also our city, that is BiH, where he is staying for the first time with his wife Emina Džumhur, whose parents are originally from Konjic.
“It was a pleasure to come to BiH, especially to Konjic, where I performed tonight. This is my first visit and I am glad that I performed in front of my wife’s family, who came to the concert. The people in Konjic, Bosnia, are very nice and they accepted me well,” said this Moroccan musician, who is also an agricultural engineer by profession.
The official program of the manifestation “Evenings of spiritual music/experiences of BiH polyphony” begins on Monday, October 16, at the Chamber Stage, at 7 p.m., with the concert “Sejfullah&friends”, and the choir “Sejfullah” and the Teofilović brothers from Belgrade will perform. The concert will be organized with the support of BH Telecom.
The event “Evenings of spiritual music/experience of BiH polyphony” is realized with the support of the City of Konjic and the Foundation for Musical, Performing and Visual Arts in Sarajevo.
