Konjic: Sarajevo Youth Theatre staged “Hedgehog’s Home.”
Children from Konjic’s kindergartens and primary schools enjoyed the performance of “Hedgehog’s Home,” staged by the Sarajevo Youth Theatre, as part of the second Art Comedy Fest in Konjic. The play, based on the well-known work by Branko Ćopić, once again confirmed that the universal messages about home, modesty, and dignity remain just as powerful today.

The main character of the story is Ježurka Ježić, a modest yet proud hedgehog who lives in his small home in the forest. Although the other characters – the Fox, the Wolf, the Bear, and the Wild Boar – mock him for lacking wealth and luxury, Ježurka demonstrates that a home is sacred, no matter how small or humble it may be.
Sarajevo Youth Theatre actor Mirza Dervišić spoke about the significance of the play, highlighting how powerful Ježurka’s story is on a personal level.
“This play personally reminded me of home. I read Hedgehog’s Home a long time ago as a child, but when we started working on the play together, it brought back the values of home for me. I wandered for a long time, searching for happiness elsewhere, and this story helped me realize where my home truly is. It’s a message that children immediately feel, but one that adults also quickly recognize within themselves,” Dervišić said.

Actress Anita Kajasa emphasized that Hedgehog’s Home is a special treasure that must be preserved and passed on to new generations.
“Hedgehog’s Home is both a rational and an emotional treasure. If we do not preserve Hedgehog’s Home, then what are we left with? I am extremely happy to be part of this play and sincerely hope it will run for a long time. I do not consider myself the most important person in the world, but I hope that productions like this will accompany me all the way to retirement and that we will meet many wonderful generations from the stage. One can never grow tired of Ježurka — he never becomes outdated. It is a classic, with a message that can be understood on so many levels,” Kajasa said.
She added that all of the actors felt a special sense of responsibility while working on the play, as it is based on a text by Branko Ćopić and one of the most beloved works of children’s literature in the region.
The play Hedgehog’s Home once again served as a reminder that modesty, the warmth of home, and sincere friendship are values that always find their way to children’s hearts, while remaining a powerful message for all generations.
