The City of Konjic, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), continues its activities to improve conditions for youth tourism at Boračko Lake.

Ahead of the upcoming tourist season, a modern facility with sanitary amenities is being constructed at the scout camp of the Neretva Konjic Troop.

As the Neretva Konjic Scout Troop prepares to mark 70 years of successful work at its camp on Boračko Lake, the outlines of a new sanitary facility are beginning to take shape. The facility is being built as part of activities through which the City of Konjic, in cooperation with UNDP, aims to improve conditions for the stay of scouts and visitors at Boračko Lake.

“We are proud of the members of the Neretva Konjic Scout Troop, who for decades have represented Konjic in a dignified manner through their active engagement. They participate in and organize gatherings, competitions, and meetings of young people and children who, through this form of socializing, learn what it means to be an active member of the community, to lead a healthy life, and how to care for the environment, their city, and their homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The infrastructure improvements being introduced to the camp’s facilities ahead of the new tourist season, in cooperation with UNDP, will enable children and young people to enjoy nature with higher-quality and better conditions for their stay at the camp,” said the Mayor of Konjic, Osman Ćatić.

“The camp at Boračko Lake has been under development since 2000, with continuous efforts to improve conditions. However, in the past four to five years, there has been a real surge and significant progress in building infrastructure and facilities, primarily thanks to the City Administration of Konjic, the Mayor of Konjic, and UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This year, a new sanitary facility is being constructed, consisting of bathing areas, showers, and everything necessary for hygiene. We will get a modern facility unlike any other at Boračko Lake, and it will be one of the best facilities of its kind in scout camps across Europe. We are very happy that, starting this year, our members and guests will be able to enjoy such conditions,” said the Head of the Neretva Konjic Scout Troop, Haris Hadžizukić. Reflecting on the work done in recent years, he emphasized that the City Administration of Konjic has invested nearly half a million convertible marks in the camp’s facilities.

As Hadžizukić emphasized, as part of these activities, bungalows for accommodating scouts have been built and equipped, a new kitchen has been constructed with two dormitories above it, and the dining area has been renovated and covered. In addition to construction works, the City of Konjic has also invested in equipment procurement, so by the end of last year, 20 new tents had been acquired.

“Because of all the above, on behalf of the scouts from Konjic and our guests, I would like to thank the City of Konjic, Mayor Osman Ćatić, and UNDP, without whom none of this would have been possible. I can proudly say that the recognition for the best move in tourism in the Summer 2024 season, awarded by the Indikator.ba portal in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Mayor and the City of Konjic for the construction of a bungalow settlement intended for youth tourism at Boračko Lake, is fully justified, as our members and guests truly enjoy the nature and the facilities we provide,” said the Head of the Neretva Konjic Scout Troop.
