Business forum ,,Diaspora Invest”

17/08/2023by Welcome to Konjic0 comments

On August 16th, “Coffee with the Mayor” started the Business Forum of the Konjic Diaspora, which was organized as part of the USAID DIASPORA INVEST project to offer answers to the question – How to establish successful and long-term cooperation with the diaspora?

During the meeting of the mayor of Konjic, Osman Ćatić, with Konjic residents living in America, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Turkey, Croatia, Serbia, Netherland, Sweden, ideas and proposals were exchanged that could significantly improve the cooperation of the diaspora with the Konjic City Administration.

This event, which is held with the message “Welcome to the hometown, the place of your business opportunities”, which brought together a large number of Konjic residents living and working abroad, was attended by the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nermin Nikšić, the Federal Minister of Development, Entrepreneurship and Crafts Vojin Mijatović and Federal Minister of Displaced Persons and Refugees Nerin Dizdar. Focusing on the diaspora as a driver of local development, examples of successful practices and support mechanisms were presented through the panel discussion.

The business forum of the Konjic diaspora is held as part of the Konjic Summer and Diaspora Day under the name “Konjic in the heart of BiH”, which, with its rich program, captures the attention of the inhabitants of Konjic and guests of all generations.

The Business Forum of the Konjic diaspora was held in Konjic, which was organized by the City of Konjic with the support of USAID as part of the DIASPORA INVEST project. The forum attracted a large number of Konjic residents who live and work outside their homeland, as well as representatives of BiH authorities from all levels.

– Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country with a huge diaspora and it is very important that we open space for people to return, to invest and to be citizens who feel at home in their Bosnia and Herzegovina. Konjic is one of the cities that embarked on this project with USAID, and I congratulate the Mayor on that, because this is a good way to improve things on that front. We as the Federal Government will give our support, working to create an environment for our people to return to Bosnia and Herzegovina – stressed the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, in his address.

Today, we’re here together, firstly to build trust, and strengthen connections with joint efforts, to reach a level that allows us to plan and create projects that will benefit the local community and its citizens, regardless of which meridian they live on. Due to our awareness of the fact that numerous people from Konjic, as well as hard-working and enterprising people, have achieved success in various businesses around the world, our intention is to gather this potential and value in terms of human resources, so that all this results in some new ideas and projects, which will significantly influence the development of the economy, socio-economic, cultural and other relations. Our most valuable potential is the people we have in Konjic, but also throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world. This is just the beginning but I hope that by actively acting and fully engaging all the actors in this story, we will make Konjic a desirable place to live, a desirable place to invest in, and a desirable place for vacation, because Konjic can do more and better – said Mayor Osman Ćatić.

– I believe in Konjic, because I see that year after year it is getting better and better, and that’s why I want to do my best as a businessman to support the investments and development strategy of the City of Konjic. I wish Mayor Ćatić and his team a lot of success and I look forward to having the opportunity to be part of that great success and that all the people of Konjic will have a better life in the future – said Luka Rajić, a successful businessman from Konjic who lives in Switzerland.

Samir Vilić, strongly connected to Konjic thanks to his roots, emphasized that the diaspora has a great potential in the economic and scientific sense – I think that young people who grew up in diaspora, educated themselves and became successful business people in the countries where they live, can revive our country. In this sense, with joint efforts, we must try to create an environment that will attract their attention. he right time to invest our knowledge and the money we have gained working abroad in healthy and prosperous projects for the benefit of all our citizens. W e expect a sincere hand of friendship here in our homeland – Vilić said.

– Today, in Konjic, we made a historic step forward in the way institutions communicate about the potential of the diaspora. The advances that have been made in diaspora investments and the inclusion of our people from around the world in processes at the local level have been recognized. This is the year of the diaspora, and everything that the City of Konjic has done shows that. We have turned things in a new direction – said Armin Alijagić from the association “Naša perspektiva”, one of the organizers of today’s meeting.
