The Mountains of Konjic Are Becoming an Increasingly Popular Mountain Tourism Destination

13/02/2026by Welcome to Konjic0 comments

Thanks to the enthusiasm of the members of the PD Borašnica Konjic, the mountain huts and shelters managed by the association are ready to welcome visitors throughout the entire year.

The mountains around Konjic are attracting an increasing number of domestic and international visitors year after year, confirming the area’s status as one of the most attractive destinations for active holidays and time spent in nature. From guests arriving from across the region to hikers coming from almost all over Europe, the mountains of Konjic are becoming an essential stop on the mountain tourism map.

As emphasized by the president of the Mountaineering Society “Borašnica,” Rasim Nuhić, the largest number of visitors come from Croatia, as well as from Serbia and Slovenia, while there is also a growing number of guests from Western European countries such as Italy, Austria, and Spain. Prenj and the surrounding mountain massifs hold particular appeal, offering an authentic nature experience throughout the year, including winter hiking tours.

One of the key reasons for the increased interest is the international hiking trail Via Dinarica, which passes through the Konjic area. This route has been internationally promoted and ranked among the world’s top destinations for trekking and mountain tourism.

The growing number of visitors also brings new challenges. The increased influx of hikers requires strong organization, planned infrastructure development, and additional preparation to ensure that time spent in the mountains is safe, enjoyable, and sustainable, while preserving the natural environment. In addition to maintaining the trails, members of the Planinarsko društvo Borašnica also maintain and equip several mountain huts — even the hut at Jezerca, although it is not managed by their association.

The Mountaineering Society “Borašnica” continuously invests efforts into equipping and maintaining its mountain huts. The facilities are adapted to both winter and summer conditions. Special attention is given to the safety of hikers. All mountain huts are equipped with open shelters that are permanently accessible in case of need or unforeseen circumstances, making them an important part of the mountain infrastructure in the Konjic area.

The president of the Mountaineering Society “Borašnica,” Rasim Nuhić, says the following about this:

“We really strive to ensure that our huts are ready for all visitors. We even provide firewood, including for the hut at Jezerca, which we do not manage. Many hikers tell us that they were able to take shelter and warm up, and that makes us happy. Each hut has its own shelter that requires no key. It would be nice if the shelters were left in the condition they were found, without leaving trash or causing damage. These shelters exist to provide protection under certain circumstances. At Rapti, it is the so-called ‘staklara’; at Vrutak, it is the ‘limara’; and at Ljubina, there is also an extended part of the shelter.”

The growing interest from both domestic and international hikers confirms that the mountains around Konjic are becoming an increasingly recognized destination for active and sustainable tourism. The natural beauty of Prenj, the enthusiasm of the members of the Planinarsko društvo Borašnica, and continuous investments in infrastructure and safety make the Konjic area ready to welcome all those seeking rest, challenge, and an authentic experience of nature in the mountains.
